Classroom environments, I think, should be a place where students feel safe. Students can come in and not worry about problems they are dealing with. I also think a classroom should be a positive learning environment where everyone is supportive of each other and is nonjudgmental. As I will be teaching students with special needs, I can educate the students that don’t have disabilities about the disabilities their classmates have. I will plan on having class rules, but I want to educate others in an attempt to “not have to use the rules”. Having an environment like this is better to learn in, creating more success!
An important thing that is involved in teaching is lesson plans. I think lesson plans should be interactive and fun so students are engaged and can enjoy learning. If kids don’t enjoy what they are learning and find it boring, they won’t get anything out of the lesson. It is important to keep kids engaged so they can learn and use the skills later in life. I feel doing things that are interactive will really pull the kids in to what I’m teaching, not a lecture, reading from a book, or watching a video. A lot of kids learn better by doing hands on learning and it can be taken many different ways if you’re creative.
I have always pictured classroom management to be organized, orderly, and students are attentive. This will keep students engaged, including the ones who tend to get off track. Ways to ensure a well-managed classroom is to have class rules, clear expectations, creating an organized plan for the day, and getting plenty of things that can be used for organization.
I believe learning activities should be interactive and include interaction with others. Hands-on activities, in my opinion, help kids learn a lot better and it keeps them focused. It also adds a fun way to learn and review things. Not only are interactive activities important but also activities that apply to all learning styles. All kids learn differently, and we should accommodate to all of their needs.
I believe grading and student evaluation should include how students attempt things and their progress throughout the year. Teachers shouldn’t teach and grade to state tests and standards. They should have some freedom to what and how they teach. It’s important to see how students react to things and see their progress instead of immediately going onto the next task. When teaching to the test, there is a sort of deadline to get everything taught when the test rolls around, and during that time students can get behind.
I believe the Teacher’s Role is best described as someone who is supportive, a helping hand, and a mentor. Teachers should be a role model that students can go to no matter the situation. A teacher is one of the few people students see at least 5 days a week and they can make a huge impact on their students. I think not only do teachers teach information, but they also teach how a person should act and be treated. Kindness, respect, creativity, and responsibility are some of the important lessons a teacher can aid in teaching.
